3 Dog Night

posted Wednesday, 3 December 2008

Two german shepherd dogs keep our lives busy - but add a 3rd or 4th german shepherd to the mix and life becomes more chaotic. My parents own a female GSD (German Shepherd Dog) which is the sister of my female GSD. I bought a male GSD to breed with the females and my brother bought another male for breeding. So we have 4 total in our family. Last weekend my brother went hunting and asked that I watch his dog (Axl) a day/night. I should have remembered the last time I tried this, but apparently I've had quite a few brain cells die since then. I brought Axl home and the 3 dogs played great. It was raining, however, so they didn't stay outside for too long. When night came and they all began looking for their bed - Axl thought he belonged in my bed. Freud (my male) thought differently. The two "buds" suddendly became mortal enemies. Freud stayed quite busy keeping Axl out of our room, away from any of us, and away from "his female", Zelda. Axl was indifferent to Freud's commotion, but Freud became obnoxious and wanted to protect his territory to the end. We separated the two continuously, but they'd somehow find a way to get close to each other and fight. This went on ALL FREAKIN' NIGHT and none of us got to sleep much. Early the next morning I took Axl back home to chill out a bit alone before having Mom get him for the night. Never knew how loyal/protective GSD's can be, but Freud was all teeth and aggression over his domain.

I didn't get a picture of Axl - or maybe it's still on the camera - but I've added photos of the other three dogs.

~peace~
